Jobless, Soon to be homeless. Yippee !! Location: Corvallis, Oregon USA Date: 2/25/01 The final pile of papers for the sale of The Computer Exchange were completed on Friday 2/23. So now I'm jobless (except for the consulting agreement that runs until 5/31/01). And if everything goes well, I'll be homeless by mid-June. This week I got a very nice letter of introduction from the Chairman of the Computer Science Department at OSU. This letter may ease the concerns of businesses and individuals about my competence. I'd be skeptical myself if some Digitalnomad type appeared from nowhere and asked if he could load software on my machine. I added another few items to my "be prepared" list. A letter from my doctor outlining my prescriptions might prove useful at certain border crossings. And I recently received my Medic Alert tag to wear around my neck. This tag deals with my alergies to penicillin and sulfa drugs and occasional asthma attack. It has a number that will accept collect calls from anywhere in the world that can make medical translators available. As I look around the shop full of stuff that I just sold, I can't help but think how nice it will be to have my life simplified down to a backpack, a vest, a key to a small storage locker, a few pieces of paper, and some plastic cards. I'm beginning to get some feedback on my website. Two new travel related sites www.trekshare.com and www.amazonroad.com contacted me to write for them and to share links. Travel writing will be fun if I can manage not to build up too long a "to do list". What kind of nomad would I be if I had a bunch of deadlines? |
