A Digital Traveler Materializes

Location: Corvallis, Oregon USA    Date: 1/1/00

Who can say precisely when an idea actually materializes? The idea of going around the world has been a vague notion of mine for decades. Family responsibilities, money, time, and the fear of the unknown have all kept the dream on hold. Well, I’m breaking out. But, like any prudent, Capricorn, old-guy, breaking out will take time. I’m figuring on 18 months. Here’s my to do list:

bulletSee my youngest child graduated from high school.
bulletDisentangle my finances from my spouse’s so we can both control our finances.
bulletSell or relieve myself and my spouse from any responsibility for running The Computer Exchange.
bulletFigure out how to travel and remain in touch with friends, family and my investment interests using a personal computer.
bulletFigure out how to finance the trip to maximize comfort and minimize cost.

I expect this list will grow considerably. Today I started talking to my wife about financial stuff. And I’ve been pondering how to stay in communication for months. I started travel research by reading The Practical Nomad by Edward Hasbrouck. Ps. Y2K fears are a joke.
